Post 8 Poulsen

This ad by BMW is exactly what Jean Kilbourne is talking about in her video that portrays women in a negative light.  Here we see as a pretty women is compared to being a car. They also implement sex appeal when they say "you're not the first."  These are two of the biggest concerns and topics mentioned in her video because they are both dehumanizing and setting bad examples for younger girls and even guys.  When younger generations see ads like this they begin to think that it is okay to dehumanize people and sex is not as important as it really is.  When we look at this picture most people can agree that this women is pretty good looking, but is this really one women? In the film we learn that the pictures used in ads can sometimes be up to 4 different pictures of women making the image of beauty impossible.  This impossible image of beauty is causing women of all ages to strive to be something that they will never be able to achieve.  As a result of this we learn that there has been a rough increase of about 457% in plastic surgery in the last ten or so years.  This increase in plastic surgery is proof that women are striving for something that isn't real because they are going to extreme lengths and changing their bodies.  I found this film interesting because I never really thought that Photoshop could be as easy as it is and how people can actually take multiple women and turn them into one.
