Week 2 TYFA - Davis

     After reading the first five chapters of Thank You for Arguing, my perception of everyday conversation has undergone significant change. Although I've been aware of rhetorical strategies before these readings, I've never thought of their definitions and usage as being quite so literal. Heinrichs sees even the most routine, mundane discourse as something exuding strategy and extensive analytical potential. The first page, for example, utilizes an exchange with his son about their bathroom's lack of toothpaste as an introductory lesson in rhetorical concession. This metaphysical aspect of rhetoric, suggesting it as an inexorable, yet overlooked force present in everyday life, is something I've found especially fascinating. Rhetoric is everywhere. It's an inherent trait of spoken language, but you need to condition yourself to recognize it.
