Week 4 - Sangkyung

I think that the author Foer focuses on what makes animals and people different from each other throughout the chapter 3. Among many sections of chapter 3, the most interesting word for me was “Anthropodenial”. I have never seen like this word thus it catches my eyes. The author Jonathan Foer defines this term as the refusal to concede significant experiential likeness between humans and the other animals. When I thoroughly read these sections from Anthropocentrism to Anthropomorphism, philosophical thoughts(?)occurred to my mind. It made me begin to think what is the major or real difference between humans and animals and why is it socially acceptable to eating animals and not humans. Furthermore, I questioned myself how are humans better than other mammals and creatures.

In general, we take for granted that humans are at the top of the evolution chain and food pyramid. Of course eating meat is necessary for humans and other animals also eat meat. However we should not overlook the fact that at one time humans were once considered animals. Foer also points out this fact. In addition to this, first and foremost, we have to know about the processes of factory farming system. As humans are, the animals have crucial values which deserve protection. Factory farming system is clearly unnatural system and it must be reformed. As we gradually reform our meat-eating culture and factory farming system, we will be able to differentiate between humans and other animals. It would demonstrates that humans are better than other mammals and creatures.
