One opinion I learned the
most from was Cheyenne’s opinions about under age drinking. She took the viewpoint of a mother who was
supportive of an anti-drunk driving group.
She first appealed to my pathos by explaining multiple tragedies that
have occurred because of drunk driving. These
stories were hard to hear because it made me think of the reality of drunk
driving. As teenagers we know it is not
right, but we often do not think of the repercussions of our actions. She then moved away from pathos and used more
logos. She explained hard facts and
numbers about deaths and how real and dangerous of a situation we put ourselves
in. The facts showed me as an audience member that
she had done her research and really knew what she was talking about. Cheyenne was also amazing at appealing to
ethos and building up her own credibility.
She did this by proposing her own idea of a solution to the
problem. She suggested a “sober to start
car”, and even when questioned about how good of an idea it was she used facts
to build her argument. Her confidence as
a rhetor made me want to believe that a difference could really be made.
