Post 8 Martin

This ad is exactly what Jean Kilbourne was talking about. This ad is for men's cologne and yet some how it was deemed necessary to place an attractive naked woman with only the name of the cologne for the rest of the ad. There is no need for a naked woman to be on the ad because she literally has nothing to do with the product or company. This advertisement continues the trend of dehumanizing women and use them as sex objects to sell products. The ongoing trend in society teaches girls that no matter how attractive they are, they aren't quite good enough. Girls are taught at a young age what society deems to be attractive and in most cases the models in ads have been completely photo shopped. When young girls see these ads and aspire to be like the women they see, it leads to low self-esteem and a feeling of unworthiness in young girls. Do to the low self-esteem, the United States has seen a large spike in the number of plastic surgeries. Young girls are being told that their bodies are not up to society's standard of what is beautiful. Until I watched this video in class I didn't realize how big of an issue it currently is. I think the problem is one that could easily be fixed and all we need is a little public awareness and companies will stop putting out ads like these if the customers have a problem with it.
