Post 12 Cooper

Throughout the entire book of Maus there is a lot of pathos that can be seen, however the part in the book that stood out the most to me was on pages 102-105. The first thing you will notice about these pages is that they aren’t even the same white color like all the other ones. These few pages are black so right when you first look at it you know that the pages aren’t going to be pleasant to look at and read. These pages play into the story at large because this shows the darkest moments of Art’s life and these pages are suppose to make us feel for Art and what he’s gone through. Looking at all the pictures that are drawn, the faces of the people all look terrifying almost as if it should all be placed in a bad dream. I feel as though Art still isn’t able to forgive himself because the last few pictures are about the last time he saw his mother and he wasn’t the nicest to her. When his mother committed suicide she didn’t leave Art or his dad a note and I couldn’t imagine the feelings they had to be going through especially since she didn’t leave them with any last words. That’s another reason why I believe this moment in Art’s life is still haunting him today.
